Having a family session at two locations that are close to each other can be a great way to add variety to your photos and capture different settings. One of my go to locations are Eucalyptus grove and Scripps Pier. Those two locations are 5 minute drive from each other which is perfect when families wish for two completely different backdrops. A short distance allows a smooth transition between the two locations. Here’s a general plan and some ideas to consider:
- Timing: Decide on the best time for the session, taking into account the lighting conditions. Late afternoon is usually ideal, as the lighting is softer and more flattering. I prefer the first location to have some shade (trees, building etc.) to filter the harsh sun.
- Inform your photographer: Ensure that your photographer is aware of the plan and is comfortable shooting at two different locations.
- Outfits: Coordinate the outfits for your family that will complement the chosen locations. Consider colors that will look great against the backgrounds and make sure everyone feels comfortable. I loved that this family chose outfits that work well for both locations. Mom changed from a dress to pants when moved to the beach. I think she looked fabulous in both outfits!
- Flexibility: Be flexible with your plans and open to spontaneous ideas during the shoot. Sometimes, unexpected locations or moments can lead to the most memorable photos.
- Have fun: The most important aspect of a family photo session is to have fun and enjoy the experience together. Genuine smiles and laughter make for the best pictures!
I love how this session turned out. Everyone was relaxed and enjoying their time together. Thank you E family for trusting me to document your family history again!
