Photographing families is really meaningful when kids are in that in-between stage—not little anymore, but not quite grown. This family session at Scripps Pier in La Jolla was a beautiful reminder of why this season deserves to be documented.
We met at the beach during golden hour, when the light turns soft and warm and everything feels a little more magical. With two teenagers, we leaned into movement and fun—running through the water, splashing in the waves, and letting moments unfold naturally. These action-packed images always become favorites, especially at the beach.
As the sun began to set, the session slowed down, creating space for quieter moments. One of my favorite parts of the evening was capturing the connection between mother and daughter—walking arm in arm along the shoreline, laughing, just being together. Those moments felt especially meaningful knowing how quickly this stage of life passes.
The sunset at Scripps Pier was dreamy that evening, with golden light reflecting off the sand and the pier stretching into the background. But what made this session truly special was the connection this family shared. There was so much ease, love, and presence between them—it’s the kind of session that stays with you.
Family photos aren’t just about how everyone looks; they’re about remembering who you were together at a certain moment in time. Capturing this season—before kids leave home and life shifts—is something I believe is incredibly important.
This was one of my favorite sessions, and I’m so grateful I got to document it.
Beach sessions at golden hour are one of my favorite ways to document families—relaxed, connected, and full of movement. If you’re drawn to images that feel real and timeless, I’d love to help you capture this chapter of your family’s story.
