Best Beaches for Family Photoshoots in San Diego

Children & Family, Coronado Dog Beach, Scripps Pier

San Diego is blessed with numerous stunning beaches that offer fantastic backdrops for family photoshoots! Here are some of my favorite beaches for family photoshoots in San Diego.

  1. La Jolla Tide Pools: This picturesque tide pool is famous for its rugged tide pools, sparkling waters, and stunning sunsets. The rocky cliffs and tide pools provide unique and dramatic backgrounds for family photos. The soft golden sand and gentle waves make it a favorite spot for families. You cannot go wrong with this location! The only downside is parking. You will need to drive around for a few minutes to find parking on the street. I always find one within a few blocks! .
  2. Coronado Dog Beach: What I love about Coronado Beach is that the beach is very wide and the waves are always calm. It’s a perfect beach location for families with little ones. This location is unique in a way that you get both sand dune backdrop and the beach backdrop. With its iconic backdrop of the historic Hotel del Coronado and wide stretches of pristine sand, Coronado Beach is a popular choice for family photoshoots. The beach offers panoramic views of the ocean and view of Point Loma, creating a beautiful setting for capturing memorable family moments.
    .
  3. Windansea Beach: Known for its rugged beauty and surf culture, Windansea Beach offers stunning rock formations, tide pools, and crashing waves that make for dramatic family photos. The golden hour light here is particularly magical, casting a warm glow over the beach.

    .

  4. Pacific Beach: With its lively atmosphere and iconic Crystal Pier, Pacific Beach is a popular destination for family photoshoots. The long stretches of sandy beach and picturesque under-the-pier shots make it an ideal spot for capturing dramatic and candid family moments.
    .
  5. Scripps Pier La Jolla: One of my favorite beach for family portrait is Scripps Pier for it’s iconic landmark pier creating a captivating focal point and sense of depth. It’s gentle waves, golden sand and dramatic cliffs in the background, you can not go wrong with this location.
    .
  6. Torrey Pines State Park: You do have to pay for parking at this beach, but this beach offers the backdrop of the expansive cliff backdrop. The beach is across the parking lot which makes it easy access if you have a little one.
